Frequently asked questions
The questions we are asked most often about choosing a programme, booking, and how our frameworks and evidence work. If yours is not here, the enquiry form reaches us directly.
Choosing a programme
- Which tier should we start with?
- Start from what your people need to be able to do, not their job titles. Operational builds shared language and foundation capability; Tactical adds specialist and simulation work; Strategic is for those who direct others under pressure; Bespoke is for when the gap sits across a whole organisation rather than a cohort. If you are unsure, the enquiry form asks the one question that settles it.
- Do we have to work through the tiers in order?
- No. The tiers describe the level of the work, not a syllabus to be completed. Many clients begin with a single Operational e-learning module across a large team and a Strategic programme for a small leadership group at the same time.
- Can a course be delivered in-house rather than as an open cohort?
- Yes. Most programmes are available for in-house delivery at your site or venue, using your own operating context and scenarios. Use the enquiry form rather than the booking page for in-house delivery.
Booking and delivery
- How do we book an open course?
- Open courses appear on the Book a Course page, grouped by tier, with dates and places. Booking is handled on the ticketing platform. Where a programme is delivered through a partner — the Trivandi Academy, for example — the link takes you to that platform.
- Why can I not see prices on the site?
- Fees depend on format, cohort size, location and whether the work is an open course or a scoped engagement. Course fees are shown on the booking platform at the point of purchase; consultancy and bespoke work is quoted after the initial conversation.
- How many people can attend?
- Scenario-led, in-person courses are capped — the Show-Safe Introduction runs to a maximum of sixteen per cohort — because the practice and debrief only work at that scale. Self-paced e-learning has no cap.
- How far ahead do we need to plan?
- Open courses can be booked as long as places remain. In-house delivery, facilitation and bespoke programmes need lead time for scenario design and context work — usually weeks rather than days.
Frameworks and evidence
- What are MBED and LSJF?
- MBED (Making Better Event Decisions) and LSJF (Live Situational Judgement Framework) are Bearing’s own proprietary frameworks, developed from doctoral research into decision-making in complex live environments. MBED gives on-event teams a common structure for making and explaining decisions; LSJF addresses judgement itself — how people read unfolding situations and act on them.
- Can we license the frameworks or train our own trainers?
- MBED and LSJF are proprietary to Bearing. Licensing, co-delivery and train-the-trainer arrangements are possible but are agreed case by case — use the enquiry form.
- Is Bearing training accredited?
- Bearing programmes are grounded in doctoral research and evidenced through participant feedback and client outcomes rather than a single awarding body. Where a programme is delivered with a partner, that partner’s own recognition applies. Ask about a specific programme and we will tell you exactly what it carries.
- What evidence is there that this works?
- The Evidence & Impact section carries case studies with a fixed challenge, approach and outcome structure — including e-learning deployed at scale for Glasgow 2026, ongoing safety consultancy for the British Science Festival, and the FailSafe simulation research partnership with MUTI Live.
Scope and context
- Do you only work in events?
- Events and live venue operations are where the research began and where most of our delivery sits. The frameworks apply anywhere decisions are made quickly, with incomplete information and real consequence — and we work in those settings too.
- Does this help with Martyn’s Law preparedness?
- Legislation sets out what must be planned for. Our work addresses the part that follows: whether your people can make sound, defensible decisions when a situation moves faster than the plan. It complements compliance work rather than replacing it.
- Can you speak at our conference or run a masterclass?
- Yes — keynotes, masterclasses and media enquiries go through the enquiry form.
