Giving a large, multi-contractor, multi-site operations workforce the same decision-making knowledge and shared language, across the full Games operational period.
Approach
Our On-Event Decision-Making Essentials e-learning module, built on MBED (the Making Better Event Decisions Framework), was delivered through the Trivandi Academy platform to all operations teams at the Games. The 45-minute module covers risk and hazard identification, decision load and fatigue, team dynamics, role clarity and rapid evaluation.
Outcome
A consistent baseline of decision-making knowledge and a shared language across the Games operations workforce.
‘It really shows how quickly an ordinary situation can start to get out of control… well-meant decisions can still lead to negative impacts, sometimes the best decisions are based on safety and responsibility, not the 100% score. It is a great thought process on ensuring you are going through the correct steps and using the resources, people and training available to you.’

British Science Festival
Ongoing Safety Consultancy
Challenge
Specialist safety planning and decision-making consultancy for a major multi-site public event, with complex venue, audience and partner dynamics.
Approach
Bearing is appointed safety consultant for the British Science Festival, a live, ongoing, fee-paying engagement. The work includes developing and reviewing the safety plan, risk assessment, building decision-making frameworks into the safety documentation, and support for event delivery.
Outcome
Safety documentation built on best practice and not just on compliance. Staff training that is relevant, easy to understand and tailored support for issues as they arise. For example, in 2026, we added in scenario based training on handling minor conflict or poor behaviours.
MUTI Live
FailSafe: AI Decision Simulation, an Applied Research Partnership
Challenge
Turning doctoral research into a simulation people can use: taking MBED and LSJF and building an AI-driven learning tool that produces evidence of how people decide.
Approach
Over three years, Bearing and MUTI Live have developed FailSafe from concept to prototype. The work has applied our doctoral research and frameworks to a branching, scenario-based simulation, an AI feedback engine covering five capability dimensions, and a dashboard that gives a structured capability profile.
Outcome
FailSafe is at prototype stage and moving toward commercial deployment. It is not yet a finished product but the three-year collaboration has demonstrated the application of the model developed through Claire’s research, built into a working simulation learning experience to develop those tacit decision making capabilities.
